Boudoir Session in Vegas

One of the attendees at last years workshop during WPPI, Evgenia, booked a Boudoir Session in Las Vegas to compliment her experience. I personally believe that being on the other end of the lens is important in the boudoir industry.  It allows you to put yourself in your client's shoes and have a better understanding of what they go through.  If you admire another photographer's work then having them shoot you gives you an inside look into what they do and will help you in your own business.

At the time of her Boudoir Session in Vegas Evgenia was a 40 year old mother of two, and while she was a boudoir photographer herself she had never had the opportunity to be on the other side of the camera. She had decided that now was the time. She admitted while the life had done a number on her body that she was never happier, and doing the session was just icing on the cake.

Evgenia said her biggest fear going is was being a photographer and type A personality. In her words "It  gave me fear that I would be thinking and overthinking the session but Jessica was amazing!!! We did so many different settings and angles, my body was aching for a few days. I love how sensual but at the same time still very me the images came out!!!"

When asked how the session made her feel and what her favorite part was Evgenia gave an answer that showed she was an artist. She said she loved every minute of it! Felt so into it and at ease! Her favorite part was experimenting with light, seeing how another person creates their art!

Celebrate Yourself

I think when most people think about booking a boudoir session they plan on making it a gift for the special someone, or to celebrate a milestone of some sort.  I often tell people to Celebrate Yourself.  When S came in this is exactly what she was doing.  Our time together was a lot of fun and there was a lot of shared laughs. We captured some beautiful images she will be able to look back on for years to come as a constant reminder of how sensual she is.

When asked what her biggest fear, going into the boudoir session, was her reply made me smile. “That I wouldn’t get any “sexy” photos. And boy, did we not only overcome my fears, but I got photos and an experience I will cherish for a lifetime!!!”

When a person comes into my studio my goal is always to create the best environment possible so that they not only take away images they will cherish for a lifetime, but memories of our time together that they will hold onto as well.  So when someone leaves a review I take it all in so that I can make the next person’s experience that much better.  This is what S. had to say about her time with me. “Jessica makes the experience so fun. She is passionate and has a natural eye and ability to capture the moment, even if you think you’re not living it. Jessica also makes you feel at ease, provides amazing guidance and gets you to believe in your beauty and abilities.”

When a client embraces the concept of Celebrate Yourself it almost always leads to them also loving themselves a little more in the end.  This is and always has been my goal as a Boudoir photographer.  To love yourself you must Celebrate Yourself any chance you get.  How you do that is up to you, but might I suggest you start with your own boudoir session

Stepping in front of the Lens

Some of you may remember Marecel, she used to be one of my makeup artists! That is, before she got on with the film industry full time. She is one of the most genuinely, sweet people I have had the pleasure to call my friend.

You can imagine how excited I was when she booked herself an intimate lifestyle boudoir session with me and made the move of stepping in front of the lens! 

"I've always wanted to do a shoot and since there's a lull in the film industry right now, it was the perfect time! I ADORE Jessica Rae's work and I knew she would capture "my best me"!Though I grew up very conservatively, in my adult life, I am not shy when it comes to my body... but that doesn't me I am always confident or satisfied with how I look. My photographs turned out so amazing and I definitely see a more confident me in them! I'm happy I decided to come out from behind the scenes and took a chance stepping in front of the lens with my own boudoir session.I had no fear or hesitation in booking with Jessica Rae, I have seen her in action before. I'll be honest, I felt a little awkward at first, I'm sure most people do, but definitely felt relaxed and empowered by the end of the session. My favourite part was seeing the end product! Ovarian Issues and Self Worth

"What is your first thought when it comes to boudoir? Yes it can mean wearing fancy lingerie , but it also means celebrating your body. After getting photographed I feel on top of the world . My confidence is through the roof, which for most women , we struggle with feeling sexy. Being a woman who has fought ovarian issues for 3 years, I always have issues seeing my stomach. Knowing where my scars are and seeing the bloating that it has caused I started to hate myself. Then I stepped in front of the lens and it changed everything. I realized that beauty is within, and you see it in every photo Jessica captures. She takes the woman and reminds her of that goddess flame inside you. I don't have to associate Ovarian Issues and Self Worth " -D.

Kate emailed me about doing a boudoir session for herself a few months ago. She is still relatively new to Canada, originally from Germany, and she was feeling a little down and needed a pick me up. Where do I even begin to find the words to express my gratitude and sheer shock! Victorian Boudoir : Gilded Magazine : Vancouver Published Editorial Boudoir Photographer

At the beginning of December I was playing around with new studio setups and  fell in love with this one so much that I put together a team right away and the next day this session happened. Sometimes the best laid plans aren't plans at all but whims of fancy! I partner up with one my of my favourite designers Charlene Rowley of Faye Tality Couture, she had the most amazing pieces to pull off the look I was aiming for. Fellow Maple Ridge photographer, Tanzyn Ambrose graciously agreed to be my muse for this set and she got all glammed up by the talented Makeup in Session's, Sana Nurani. I am so blessed to call all of these amazing women friends, and that they go along with my mad ideas <3These images  have been featured in Gilded Magazines issue 7 vol 2 edition.

Kerosene Deluxe - Published - Chilliwack Boudoir Photographer

What a way to ring in the new year - Published in the New Years edition of Pinups & Kustoms Magazine with my muse Kerosene Deluxe was the perfect way to say farewell to 2015 and HELLO 2016!!! I met Kerosene earlier this year and have had the pleasure of photographing her on a number of occasions. Not only is she a beautiful gal on the outside but she is just as beautiful on the inside. She is genuine and has a heart of gold and I am proud to call her my friend.We ventured up to the city of Chilliwack  so we could borrow a friends beautiful vintage car for this session. The sun was getting low in the sky and was casting the most beautiful golden light over the valley. I couldn't have asked for more. It was perfection! Published - Philosophie Boudoir Magazine - Fraser Valley BC Canada

**This post contains nudity**It is such an honour to have my work included in a publication such as Philosophie Boudoir Magazine. To have my work appear along side some of the top photographers, in the Boudoir genre of the photography industry makes this girls heart so full. This is the second time I have had my work featured in Philosophie and it is also the very first magazine I was been published in! Thank you to AIBP (association of international boudoir photographers) I wanted to change it up an take this session outdoors. Thankfully we had an amazing summer in southern BC this year and we took to a local lake. I have been swimming at this lake in Maple Ridge since I was a little girl, so it holds a special place in my heart. I've been so busy I have fallen behind on blogging! I have so many sessions waiting for me to share them with the world!So here is one that is long over due. My session with Miss. M from March of this year. This was our very first time working together and I'm happy to say there have been many more session with this beauty since. I have been published in a number of magazines with her since this boudoir session and one of my most favourite sessions with her ever will be released in the next couple of weeks! Miss O : Chronic Illness and the journey to a Healthy Happy place : Fraser Valley Boudoir Photography

What Miss. O had to say about her session with Boudoir By Jessica Rae and why she chose to do a boudoir session..."I've always been body conscious growing up, it's one of the many reasons I used to exercise daily and restrict my diet, and everything was going well up until about 6 months ago. All of the sudden I was loosing weight rapidly, at first I thought it was because of my diet and my exercise regimens so I thought nothing of it. As the month progressed my diet got worse and I found myself craving sugary foods and becoming so thirsty I couldn't sleep at night, all while loosing weight continuously. It got to the point that I had gone from a healthy diet and weight of 125 to 90 pounds and dropping while eating nothing but ice cream, chips, and anything sweet I could get my hands on. Eventually this led me to the emergency room with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. After regaining my health and balancing out my body levels I gained the weight back rapidly, going from 90 pounds of bones to 140 pounds and bloated. The rapid weight loss and even faster weight retention cause my body to change, I didn't even recognize myself in the mirror. Not only did I have this chronic illness to deal with for the rest of my life, not to mention injecting myself two to three times a day, but now I had to deal with the emotional implications of what it had done to the way I looked. Over the few months that followed I slowly evened out and decided it was time to take back my body and feel good about myself again.This is when I contacted Jessica Rae, I saw her work through a friend and the beauty of the shots along with the kind and comforting responses showed me I was in good hands. The shoot was wonderful and fun, I felt inspired and beautiful again and I left so excited and ready to do many more! When I returned with a friend to view the photos and pick my favourites I was blown away at my images, I never thought I could look like that and I actually had a difficult time deciding which to pick, something I never do regularly as generally I hate photos of myself.Jessica Rae was incredibly sweet and gentle with a wonderful sense of humour and this experience gave me back my confidence and let me feel comfortable in my own skin again. Boudoir is not an experience just for someone else, it is all about your own feelings and the power it gives you. Given the opportunity I would do it again in a heartbeat."  Miss. MissX - Birthday Boudoir Surprise

"I had been interested in doing a boudoir shoot for a while, but it never happened. So when my husband surprised me on my birthday with a fully paid boudoir package, I was ecstatic! And I didn't even drop any hints! It was what I was looking for, without realizing it at the time.

The experience made me feel like a real model. From picking out my outfit, to getting all glammed up by a hair and makeup artist, to becoming the sole focus of the lens, it is an experience that I think any woman should consider. Couples - Vancouver Boudoir Photography

Photographing this couples session was a new experience for me;  it was beyond anything I have ever photographed before. The chemistry these two have - it's hard to find the words.Sensual, intense, charismatic, intense, bold... those are a few that come to mind. Miss B - Greater Vancouver Boudoir Photography

Doing a boudoir shoot is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. I personally chose to do one with Jessica in order to overcome self-limiting beliefs I had about myself, and my body. I believe as women, we are often bombarded with overwhelming messages on what the “ideal” body type is. Throughout most of my life, I have struggled with anxiety, and insecurity.
