We're Back! First Session Post Covid-19 lock down
3 VERY long months of not being able to photograph other humans (selfies don't count ha!) There is a part of me that is very grateful for the pause. The slower pace of life suits me just fine!
But not being able to fill my creative cup is definitely detrimental to my mental health. I've missed it beyond measure…
3 months.
3 VERY long months of not being able to photograph other humans (selfies don't count ha!)
There is a part of me that is very grateful for the pause. The slower pace of life suits me just fine!
But not being able to fill my creative cup is definitely detrimental to my mental health. I've missed it beyond measure.
Even after my surgery Nov 2018 I didn't go this long without picking up my camera and creating art!
My last client session was March 9, 2020 - on March 13, 2020 we were given stay at home orders in BC
I relished in the slower pace for a time. No deadlines. Less Stress - in some ways, I mean, lets be honest, a pandemic is stressful!
But I missed my clients. I missed the human interaction. I missed creating art and helping people to document their stories, their triumphs, their traumas.
All of it!
Even though I missed it THAT much, I hesitated when they gave us the green light to open our studio doors and resume business.
These are uncertain times and I didn't want to be foolhardy.
So myself and my team have been working diligently behind the scenes. Working on new protocols and safety measures.
Ensuring that your well being, as well of that of my teams and my own, are paramount.
If you have been in the studio before for an intimate portrait session you will notice a few changes.
The one I am most sad about is there will be no more hugs to end our sessions. Just a virtual high 5 or toe tap moving forward.
I will be wearing a mask during our time together - as will you, in some capacity, at times. We both wear them during consultations and sales appointments.
We will be providing a sanitized bin for you to place your personal affects in.
You will be required to fill out a covid-19 questionnaire before your session.
And there is so much you will not see! Like all the deep cleaning and sterilizing that will take place before and after your photo session.
But it's official as of July we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS and I am beyond excited.
June is for dusting off the cobwebs and working out kinks and establishing new covid-19 protocols and for that I invited my friend Nicole Ashley in for a session.
Nicole is always ready, often last minute, to come into the studio and help me test out a new idea or set. I am so grateful for friends like her.
Needless to say I am OVER THE MOON with the art we created together and I am even MORE excited to open my doors back up to clients in July!
I cannot wait to photograph you!!!

Boudoir session - Fraser Valley
I think when most people think about booking a boudoir session they plan on making it a gift for the special someone, or to celebrate a milestone of some sort. I often tell people to Celebrate Yourself. When S came in this is exactly what she was doing. Our time together was a lot of fun and there was a lot of shared laughs. We captured some beautiful images she will be able to look back on for years to come as a constant reminder of how sensual she is.
When asked what her biggest fear, going into the boudoir session, was her reply made me smile. “That I wouldn’t get any “sexy” photos. And boy, did we not only overcome my fears, but I got photos and an experience I will cherish for a lifetime!!!”

When a person comes into my studio my goal is always to create the best environment possible so that they not only take away images they will cherish for a lifetime, but memories of our time together that they will hold onto as well. So when someone leaves a review I take it all in so that I can make the next person’s experience that much better. This is what S. had to say about her time with me. “Jessica makes the experience so fun. She is passionate and has a natural eye and ability to capture the moment, even if you think you’re not living it. Jessica also makes you feel at ease, provides amazing guidance and gets you to believe in your beauty and abilities.”
When a client embraces the concept of Celebrate Yourself it almost always leads to them also loving themselves a little more in the end. This is and always has been my goal as a Boudoir photographer. To love yourself you must Celebrate Yourself any chance you get. How you do that is up to you, but might I suggest you start with your own boudoir session

Shower sessions
Sometimes there is nothing more sensual and personal than that time you spend relaxing in a shower. With this expansion to her studio Jessica now has the ability to capture your beauty in a whole new way.
Shower sessions
Shower sessions....You may be asking what is this. Jessica has added a new faux shower set to her already impressive studio, and now you can add the Shower session to your boudoir experience. Below you can look through some of the images that have been captured using this set. Sometimes there is nothing more sensual and personal than that time you spend relaxing in a shower. With this expansion to her studio Jessica now has the ability to capture your beauty in a whole new way.
While Shower sessions may not be a new concept in the boudoir world Jessica has been able to put her own unique spin on them and her award winning style shines through in every image. There is so much variety you can achieve with this simple yet elegant set up. Whether you are alone or doing a couple's session it will be the finishing touch your experience needs.
Shower sessions are not a session in themselves, but rather an add on to the Jessica Rae experience. Everyone's time in the Shower is unique and will showcase a different element that compliments the rest of Jessica's work. Boudoir isn't just limited to the bedroom and this addition compliments her bathroom set with the antique clawfoot tub, vanity and general aesthetic. It was the final element needed to tie the entire experience together.
Different colored lights used during Shower sessions give you a whole new look and feel.
Show as much or as little as you're comfortable with.
This is about celebrating you.
Boudoir is for Every Woman
Boudoir is for every human.
From the time you walk into the studio until the moment you leave this experience is all about you. Your time will begin with professional hair and make up while we sit and get to know each other. You'll be pampered by the professional hair and make up artist while you sip on a Mimosa and relax.
When it’s all said and done you will agree boudoir is for everyone.
Boudoir is for Every Woman
Everyone comes with their own reasons why they want to do a Intimate lifestyle boudoir session. T wasn't much different from a lot of the reasons I hear. It was initially just a gift for her husband, but as the session progressed she realized it was really more for her. My time with T was a lot of fun. We laughed and talked as the session went on and I watched what little nerves she had at the beginning melt away. In her own words she is a Zero F's kind of person. I'm a firm believer that boudoir is for every woman and T was no exception.
I asked her a few questions after her boudoir session, about her time in my studio, and will share a couple of her responses with you.
Q: Did anything change about the way you see your own beauty / sexuality / sensuality / body confidence as a result of this session?
A: You know what, yes. I think we are all our own worst critics. To see examples in studio of past sessions I realized it's a lot easier to appreciate the beauty in other people flaws and all. I need to look at myself with the same appreciation.
Q: How did the session make you feel?
A: Like a pretty pretty princess just kidding, hot AF. (This made me laugh)
Boudoir isn't just taking pretty pictures. It's about the entire experience, connecting with each person, and creating an environment where they can open up and see themselves for the amazing person they are. Every individual has a different motivation for booking a boudoir session. Whether it's a gift for a partner, a celebration of a milestone, or even just because they want to do something for themselves. If it's this or something else the goal is to make it the most empowering experience possible.
Just remember Boudoir is for every human. From the time you walk into the studio until the moment you leave this experience is all about you. Your time will begin with professional hair and make up while we sit and get to know each other. You'll be pampered by the professional hair and make up artist while you sip on a Mimosa and relax. During the actual shoot you will move around the studio as you are guided through different sets and poses and you will be coached to make it look just right. It's expected that most people will feel unsure in the beginning, as this is normal for almost everyone, but rest assured it gets easier as you go. A couple weeks later you will return to view all of your images and make your product selections. You will again get to sit and relax with a drink and some treats as you relive your experience through viewing the images. When you leave you will agree boudoir is for everyone. Boudoir session - Vancouver
I'll be honest, I felt a little awkward at first, I'm sure most people do, but definitely felt relaxed and empowered by the end of the session. My favourite part was seeing the end product! Being a makeup artist, it's different being on the other side side of the lens but so rewarding. The proof is in the pudding. My images are STUNNING and Jessica is the absolute best at capturing feminine sexuality that speaks beauty and class. I just LOVE you, Jessica Rae and I loved my boudoir session!"
Stepping in front of the Lens
Some of you may remember Marecel, she used to be one of my makeup artists! That is, before she got on with the film industry full time. She is one of the most genuinely, sweet people I have had the pleasure to call my friend.
You can imagine how excited I was when she booked herself an intimate lifestyle boudoir session with me and made the move of stepping in front of the lens!
"I've always wanted to do a shoot and since there's a lull in the film industry right now, it was the perfect time! I ADORE Jessica Rae's work and I knew she would capture "my best me"!Though I grew up very conservatively, in my adult life, I am not shy when it comes to my body... but that doesn't me I am always confident or satisfied with how I look. My photographs turned out so amazing and I definitely see a more confident me in them! I'm happy I decided to come out from behind the scenes and took a chance stepping in front of the lens with my own boudoir session.I had no fear or hesitation in booking with Jessica Rae, I have seen her in action before. Photography Mentoring
“She knows her shit!
You can tell she absolutely adores what she does and she has a love for showing women how beautiful they are. Being a photographer myself, I should know how to pose - but being in front of the camera is completely different and nerve wracking to be honest. But Jessica was a rock star in helping me feel comfortable and relaxed and she made me feel so good in my skin. “
Photography Mentoring
I first met Michelle back in 2010 when I joined Helping Hearts, a non-profit photography program she co-founded. We lost touch over the years but she recently reached out to me on facebook and asked if I would be open to Photography Mentoring, as she had recently taken up interest in photographing boudoir. Quite the divergence from the newborn photographer I had known her for over the years!
When I found out she was staying in town for a few days I invited her to come by my studio for a quick in-person mentoring session. Well this quickly unfolded into an impromptu photo session! haha It is always such a pleasure and a honour to get to work with other photographers. Below is what Michelle had to say about her experience with me and her Photography Mentoring :
"Let me start off by saying Jessica is amazing. She knows her shit! I’ve had two children and like most women, I am uncomfortable in the skin I’ve been left with. But Jessica helped me to embrace my body and love it for what it is. To feel sexy and empowered in my skin. She took the time to talk to me throughout the session, reminding me what to do with my arms, how to pose my legs, where to look and what to do with my body. I walked away from our session with such confidence - I was on a total high! Thank you Jessica! My experience with you was so fantastic!!! " - Michelle

Dedication Payoff - Vancouver Boudoir Photography
After working hard on her personal health and fitness routine for 16 weeks leading up to her intimate lifestyle photoshoot, Miss N was still feeling nervous. She worried about how to position her body and manage facial expressions... as well as feeling silly. These are common concerns with all my clients. You are not alone!Let's hear firsthand what Miss N had to say about her overall experience. Check out a few of her amazing images from her first session with me below! "All of my worries disappeared with Jessica Rae's expert coaching and calm disposition, and the fact that she obliged me when I preferred more anonymous body pics vs pics with my face! I feel that JR really knew what direction I wanted to go in and honoured it. Looking into her camera and seeing some of the shots she was getting was also helpful and visually informative for me.Being in a safe studio space and working with a female photographer really helped me feel open and comfortable. Also being guided by Jessica Rae during the session, in terms of how to hold and position my body, was very helpful. After the shoot I felt very proud and invigorated by the overall experience, and was so happy that I was able to document my best shape in such an artistic and classy way - in addition to really pushing myself outside my comfort zone and trying something new and exciting. After the session I felt like a model - lol! Overall liberated, scared, and excited! The most significant feelings of pride and awe though came from sitting with Jessica Rae and my husband post shoot and seeing the INCREDIBLE photos of me she presented to us!"
I would say this experience was remarkable! Worth every minute and penny. I've never looked so good!
Can't wait for session #2 hopefully a couples session... also looking forward to ordering a metal estate art piece."

Kate emailed me about doing a boudoir session for herself a few months ago. She is still relatively new to Canada, originally from Germany, and she was feeling a little down and needed a pick me up. A little self confidence boost. I am so glad that she choose an intimate lifestyle photo session with me in order to accomplish this! Here what Kate had to say:"I loved everything! From the make up to the shoot. I loved how friendly Jessica is. We spent a lot of time chatting, she really took the time to get to know me. Her studio is lovely and I really love my pictures."It was a such a pleasure to photograph you, Kate. Thank you for trusting me and for being so open. Colour VS Black & White Debate - Maple Ridge Abbotsford Boudoir Photographer
Colour VS Black & WhiteWhen clients come in they are presented with both colour and black&white versions of each of their final edited images. Many clients come in thinking they will be partial to one or the other and are often quite surprised at how difficult the choice between the two end up being.I even find myself torn between one or the other. I begin with a colour image and tone colours to how I like - this image for example I decided to go for a cool cinematic tone. I adore it - then I converted it to a black&white image and love it too! haha
Birthday Surprise - Abbotsford Boudoir Photographer
Ms. N came in to create an unforgettable birthday gift for her husband, but I think she would agree it was just as much a gift for herself.Ms. N had this to say about her session:I didn't know what to expect in the full scale of things. But I think it went perfect for what I was looking for. It made me feel beautiful. My favourite part of the experience was seeing the images, to see what I looked like in that element was pretty amazing.Jessica!! You are an amazing woman, your work is fantastic. I am so happy that I got to spend that time with you.Any words of advice for women who are thinking about booking a boudoir session?Breath and enjoy every moment.
Anniversary Boudoir Gift - Fraser Valley Photographer
Here is what Ms. C had to say about her experience:" I had a fantastic experience with Jessica. This was my first Boudoir photoshoot and I was nervous at first. I didn't know what to do with my arms. Jessica put me at ease and offered great direction. I ended up having a lot of fun, from make up, to wardrobe changes, to the very last shot. I walked away from the shoot feeling more confident, refreshed and as though I had just done a really good work out. (Without the cleanup)The pictures are beautiful and Jessica was very accommodating with the layout of the album. The final product is an anniversary gift for my husband, but I know that I will cherish the experience and gorgeous shots of myself. Thank you"

ReDefining Beauty with The Beautiful Real - Cancer Diagnosis - Abbotsford Photographer
How do you define beauty? Now imagine you are stripped of your previous perceptions and notions of beauty...How Do you redefine beauty?I met Dana a couple of years ago at a women's networking event, she caught my attention the moment she walked into the room. She had a head full of the most gorgeous red curls I have ever seen and she carried herself with such grace and confidence. Now, I talk a lot! Honestly, if you have ever met me in person, you know I can ramble on and on and on ;) But when Dana spoke, I shut the fuck up and listened! We became friends on Facebook and that is how I came to find out about her cancer diagnosis.I knew I wanted to do something for this amazing woman, so I reached out to her to discuss doing a photo session, and what that would mean for her. The results of our collaboration are beyond anything I have created to date. Not only did we create beautiful, sensual, emotive images but we also created a beautiful video to tell her story.Enough of my banter though, I'll let her continue the story from here.**This post contains images of tasteful nudityDana's journey to (re)Define Beauty...[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRj-fOpqLuI[/embed] We learn very early what beauty is supposed look like and society has done a great job of making sure that there is little room for interpretation. Whether we realize it or not, as women we all measure ourselves up against something that we deem as being “more beautiful” than us–add an advanced cancer diagnosis and some women feel the need to become invisible because we are seen as damaged goods or less than by many people–mostly other women.
We [women] suffer from an epidemic of smallness. We spend years shrinking ourselves for fear that our wildness or haughtiness will be shamed. We will continue to starve in silence until we can create new stories with the power of naming our true selves.I was told by someone recently that I was dangerous. I asked why, and their response was, "because you don't depend on anyone for approval and you don’t care what anyone thinks–you just do you, cancer and all."
We [women] need to come to an understanding of what it means to be beautiful. Sexy photos aren’t about gratuitous nudity, it’s about feeding the soul– a new sense of identity. There is a complete stripping down that happens when cancer comes knocking asking the question: Who am I when I’m stripped down? When I lost most of my gorgeous hair, and acquired abdominal scars from surgery, I was devastated but it didn’t mean I needed hide, it meant I needed to redefine what beauty meant to me. Beauty is more than in the way you look, it’s how you hold yourself, the way you love yourself–and how you love others.
When cancer showed up in my life, it was self acceptance that saved me when all hell was breaking loose and my world turned upside down. I had to learn to love myself differently. The names others gave me didn’t hold me down–cancer will never steal my scream because every moment used to criticize ourselves, is a tragic loss. Beauty and sexy comes from the soul, and as far as I'm concerned, a beautiful soul is what you've got to worry about when you die.
Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your life and dreams every minute.

At the beginning of December I was playing around with new studio setups and fell in love with this one so much that I put together a team right away and the next day this session happened. Sometimes the best laid plans aren't plans at all but whims of fancy! I partner up with one my of my favourite designers Charlene Rowley of Faye Tality Couture, she had the most amazing pieces to pull off the look I was aiming for. Fellow Maple Ridge photographer, Tanzyn Ambrose graciously agreed to be my muse for this set and she got all glammed up by the talented Makeup in Session's, Sana Nurani. I am so blessed to call all of these amazing women friends, and that they go along with my mad ideas <3These images have been featured in Gilded Magazines issue 7 vol 2 edition.

Mother of Six Celebrates Herself - Vancouver Boudoir Photographer
Miss S. writes:I have always had body image issues all my life. Before children I felt I wasn't curvy enough, after having children I felt worse about myself. I felt I was too curvy and in the wrong places. Now 6 kids later and a wonderful man that sees the beauty in me everyday I decided it was time for me to know how beautiful I am. Looking in the mirror we only see the perception of how we believe we look. The day I went in for my photo shoot I was a wreak. Nervous beyond words. Jessica welcomed me with her warm heart. I felt an instant connection with her. Her gentle professional manner made me feel at ease. Needless to say I walked out feeling powerful and beautiful as a woman and a mother. I believe this was the best thing I ever truly did for myself.

Miss O : Chronic Illness and the journey to a Healthy Happy place : Fraser Valley Boudoir Photography
What Miss. O had to say about her session with Boudoir By Jessica Rae and why she chose to do a boudoir session..."I've always been body conscious growing up, it's one of the many reasons I used to exercise daily and restrict my diet, and everything was going well up until about 6 months ago. All of the sudden I was loosing weight rapidly, at first I thought it was because of my diet and my exercise regimens so I thought nothing of it. As the month progressed my diet got worse and I found myself craving sugary foods and becoming so thirsty I couldn't sleep at night, all while loosing weight continuously. It got to the point that I had gone from a healthy diet and weight of 125 to 90 pounds and dropping while eating nothing but ice cream, chips, and anything sweet I could get my hands on. Eventually this led me to the emergency room with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. After regaining my health and balancing out my body levels I gained the weight back rapidly, going from 90 pounds of bones to 140 pounds and bloated. The rapid weight loss and even faster weight retention cause my body to change, I didn't even recognize myself in the mirror. Not only did I have this chronic illness to deal with for the rest of my life, not to mention injecting myself two to three times a day, but now I had to deal with the emotional implications of what it had done to the way I looked. Over the few months that followed I slowly evened out and decided it was time to take back my body and feel good about myself again. This is when I contacted Jessica Rae, I saw her work through a friend and the beauty of the shots along with the kind and comforting responses showed me I was in good hands. The shoot was wonderful and fun, I felt inspired and beautiful again and I left so excited and ready to do many more! When I returned with a friend to view the photos and pick my favourites I was blown away at my images, I never thought I could look like that and I actually had a difficult time deciding which to pick, something I never do regularly as generally I hate photos of myself.Jessica Rae was incredibly sweet and gentle with a wonderful sense of humour and this experience gave me back my confidence and let me feel comfortable in my own skin again. Boudoir is not an experience just for someone else, it is all about your own feelings and the power it gives you. Given the opportunity I would do it again in a heartbeat." Miss. OReading her words gave me goosebumps. I am honoured and thrilled to be a positive part of her journey to being healthy, happy and positive <3 Thank you for sharing your story with us and thank you for allowing me to share your stunning images <3 xoxoxoHair and Makeup by Marecel Daniel
