I am happy you are here.

My own lived experiences have created the need and want for me to strive to create a safe place for my subjects to explore their vulnerability and authenticity... because I also strive for it to be a safe place for me to explore my own. — Jessica Rae

As an Intimate Portrait photographer, I strive to be a visionary; a story keeper, and a believer in the power of vulnerability. My alchemic mix of photography and soul resonates deep through a personal journey of uncovering my own worth.

My photography genre is really vulnerability. It’s beautiful to see the layers peel back when people are given a safe space to be authentic. Photography is really the business of creating sacred stories using photographs as the catalyst.

I love watching people as they tell their story. Their bodies creating visual cues through movement and emotion that seeps beyond the surface.
I believe it’s the stories that emerge that help us to continue to heal, grow, support and celebrate, not only ourselves but, each other as a whole.

ARTIST

I believe that one day
you will tell your story
of how you’ve overcome
what you’re going through now,
and it will become part of
someone else’s survival guide.

  1. I would rather be an hour early than 5 minutes late.

  2. I enjoy a good cup of tea, never coffee.

  3. I am Neurodivergent / ADHD - I talk a lot + I over share - My clients say this is what makes them feel so comfortable and at ease.

  4. Small talk is for the birds! I love digging deep and getting to know you and your story.

  5. If you know the lyrics to a song I think you should sing your heart out (even if you miss every note).

Ten Things About Me

6. I adore all 5 of my kids – even when they drive me crazy.

7. I am obsessed with Alpacas!

8. I am loyal to a fault.

9. I am an artist at heart and my core: drawing, painting,
sculpting, wood work. I’ve done them all.

10. I strive to capture real, authentic, genuine LIFE!
My mission is to aid you in telling your story through my lens.

Some come in to help them navigate through a trauma they have experienced in their life. Things that have caused them to question their self worth or value. They need a little nudge or guidance in reclaiming that power that is rightfully theirs. To celebrate who they are now, in this moment.

Some come in to celebrate a Triumph, such as hitting a goal or a milestone, celebrating their relationship or new chapter in life. A big move, job promotion, birthday, about to start a family - So many countless reasons that bring a person into the studio and before my lens.

I strive to provide a safe place where you can (re)connect with yourself both physically and emotionally.

I WALK THE WALK

I believe it is so important for any photographer, but even more so for an intimate portrait photographer to experience what it is like to be in their clients shoes.

This is why I try to step in front of the lens as often as possible, be it my own, or one of my peers.

You might look at my photographs and think, well she just has so much confidence!
I am just as nervous, awkward and at times uncomfortable being so vulnerable
in front of another human, let alone one that is documenting it with their camera!

Remember, that my own lived experiences have created the need and want for me to
strive to create a safe place for my subjects to explore their vulnerability and authenticity...
because I also strive for it to be a safe place for me to explore my own.

This is not just a photo session it is a therapeutic ART experience!

Vancouver Boudoir Photographer Artist Jessica Rae 1

As a child and young adult society told me
that there was little place for people like me.
I repeatedly heard things like :

You talk too much

You share too much

You care too much

You dream too much

You are just too much.

It was ingrained me that these were faults and weakness

These are the very core of ME!
I have done the work, and will continue to do so, to show
that these are, in fact, strengths.

My life changed when I reframed my perspective :
Am I too much or are they too little?
I don’t fit in a box, because there is no box.
